Fourth Quarter and Final Grades for Elementary Studentsgrading

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has announced how elementary students will be graded for the fourth quarter and final year-end grades.

Fourth Quarter Term Grades
  • If a student earns a fourth quarter grade that is the same letter or higher than their third quarter grade, they will receive a letter grade for the fourth quarter.
  • If a student's grade drops below their third quarter grade, but they demonstrate regular engagement in remote learning or reasonable mastery of assigned work (as evidenced by earning a D or higher), they will receive a Pass for fourth quarter.
  • If a student does not demonstrate regular engagement in remote learning or mastery of assigned work (receiving an F), they will receive an Incomplete for the fourth quarter. Students who receive an incomplete will be prioritized for summer school, if summer school can be held this year.

Final Grades
Final grades, normally calculated as an average of the four term grades, will be determined using these guidelines:
  • If a student earns a letter grade for their fourth quarter grade, their final grade will be the average of all four term grades.
  • If a student earns a Pass for their fourth quarter grade, their final grade will be the average of their first, second, and third quarter grades.
  • If a student earns an Incomplete for the fourth quarter grade, their final grade will be an Incomplete. They will be prioritized for summer school, if summer school can be held this year.

If you are concerned about your child's grade, please speak with your child's teacher.

Skinner West will no longer have a tuition-based Pre-k program in the fall. CPS has now designated our Pre-K program as a universal pre-K program in the fall. More information will be forthcoming regarding the application process and guidelines.

Neighborhood and Classical kindergarten registration will most likely start in mid-June. The administration is still waiting for guidance from Chicago Public Schools (CPS) as to how registration will proceed. Once we have information, we will post it in the Admission section of our web site.

The Skinner West Debate Team participated in the Chicago Middle School Debate League's Tournament Three for the 2019-2020 season in February. The overall topic for the year was: Arms sales. The cases debated at this tournament were Ukraine, Taiwan, and Saudi Arabia.

More than 100 debaters across 65 teams from six schools competed at the tournament. Skinner West swept the JV division--winning all of the team and individual awards. We also won 75% of the Novice team awards. Our Superstars won 67% of all possible awards at the tournament (30 out of 45).

Congratulations to all of the participating Skinner Superstars for a great debate tournament!

My amazing mom
by Landon B.

My mom is a great mom, you won't find a mom like her anywhere
She is a lovely mom and plays sports like a pro
She sure has an arm and knows how to throw
I love how she cooks for me like no other
She makes me homemade chicken noodle soup like no other mother
She cleans like a crazy machine
She does her own thing and is a queen
She grapples me and makes me scream in laughter
Most of all I love her for who she is and what she does and I will love her hereafter

My Mom
by Violetta P.

My mom the one who cares for me
The one who I can relate too
The one who gives me the best advice
The one who I love
The one who loves me
The one who keeps me safe
The one who keeps me happy
My mom is the one who I love dearest
Happy mothers day !
